And as to a full time anti-virus, I highly recommend Bitdefender Free. It's cloud-based and light weight. It will cause problems if you hack your ass off in games like I do. It will neutralize debugging which is a malware risk, but can cause issues with certain game modifications, hacks and/or game tools like the GenTool for Command & Conquer. Other than that it's great protection for free. They require an E-mail but I never get E-mail from them. Maybe once or twice.
In addition to that, I would check out Sandboxie for your browser. They have a forum for help and it's free for just the default browser you use. This will greatly impede polymorphic malware like ransomware. If you download a torrent magnet link, don't use Sandboxie. Launch the browser without it. Otherwise the download will be stuck in the sandbox until it finishes.
If you use the Thunderbird E-mail client you can use Shade SandBox for it.
In case you're wondering. I use non-Punkbuster servers. :devil-in-disguise: User name BlackMagic. ßĹàck Mąɠɨƈ
