Over a small period of time, my computer has started to act up. First, i noticed whle trying to play a dvd, that my computer had started to not recognize my cd drive (no disk drive icon in my computer etc.). After that, as may of been a result of me trying to fix the cd drive, on startup, it sais that a windows fileis missing or corrupt and that i need to insert the windows setup cd to fix it. The problem should be pretty obviouis, but most problems were caused by recent hardware changes (Switched cases) the first error i got was a missing floppy drive, but i put everything in like it was in my previous case. Thanks for any help to come.

Stop tinkering

It's obvious your changeing things you don't understand.
So lets solve 1 at a time.
Started not to,what is that ? Can you read the contents on a disk ?
Maybe it's the player your useing.
I just bought a new dvd drive so go figure.$ 80

Actually i just got the CD drive working, and the problem may be: i noticed on the IDE attachment to the HD, a pin was cut in half and bent to the side. could one pin make that happen? Your right too i have only a slight idea of what im doing but thats why im here, thanks for help present and to come.

Just noticed, bluto, windows does not boot on my computer, after a fairly long pause (black screen) after the BIOS screen, it brings up a message about a "missing or corrupt" file, it gives me directions about putting in the setup cd and pressing "r" but all that does is restart the computer when the error message comes up

QUESTIONS 101
Sounds like bad MBR or missing ntldr or the like. Fix for that would be to re-install windows depending on which windows you have.

Sorry as this usually gets me in trouble but,
What is MBR and ntldr, these are people learning.I'v been around 15 years and i don't know.
Also installing Windows is not a sollution, just a quick fix.

Master Boot Record and the device driver that loads from window's boot sector, the go hand in hand.

Yes, re-installing windows IS the fix. A quick fix would be to just boot the drive in the windows recovery console and see if you can reconstruct the MBR if it's that or try and get A ntldr file into the windows system folder and try and get the comp to boot to safe mode just so you can pull your data off.
