master and slave ide questions

as you know I recently bought an ssd to boot my os. unfortunately I have no way of booting from the ssd and then jumping to my data drive and running from there. my data is currently my master drive and my ssd is currently my slave drive. would changing the ssd to the master and the hdd to the slave solve my problem?

Also I heard about setting up a JBOD array to combine the volumes into one large disk. Would someone tell me how to do that?

You have to change your ssd to master and install windows to it if you want it to be your OS drive.

your os will boot using the ssd (as long as the os is installed correctly and the bootloader is present) and then the other drive will remain as a slave you can access in, say, my computer, for storage and what not

Are you running some sort of SATA->IDE adapter? Because the SSD is SATA and I'd imagine your 500GB is as well...

That was my question too since SATA has been pretty much standard for quite a few years now. Can you even buy IDE drives anymore?

Like someone already said, you must have a boot sector and a boot loader tell your SSD to boot.

no my drives are both sata (my ssd is sata 3 actually). its just called master and slave ide still. I figured out how to set up my drives so I am all good
