Master PATA Hard Drive and Slave SATA? Possible?

I have a 74 gigabyte Parallel ATA hard drive and wanted to buy a Serial ATA 148 gigabyte hard drive. My motherboard has ports for Parallel ATA and Serial ATA hard drives. Could I make my Parallel ATA the master and Serial ATA a slave hard drive? Anyone have any experience with this?

The SATA drive is just there, it's not master or slave. For booting, your BIOS will give you the option of what hard drive to boot from.
