Maximus V Formula Issues.. Help

So, as I'm sure we've all experienced at one time or another a piece of equipment that gives us grief..

I'm pretty much ready to swap out the new Maximus V I grabbed for something else.. but I thought I'd get some members input first.

So--

Built the machine yesterday and install was smooth-- the specs are in sig..

The major issue I'm facing is with the Asmedia Sata 6G ports..

4 of the sata 6 ports are run by this controller--and none of those 4 appear in the bios, or are recognized in any of the various ways I've tried to use them..

Dev Manager shows nothing in 'storage controller', and for the life of me it appears I only have the 4 intel controlled sata ports.. (2 x 3g black & 2 x 6g red)

Does anyone have any experience with Asmedia sata controller? are they known to be crap? hit or miss?

Essentially, this is a deal breaker as I expect all features on a motherboard to fuction--I just want sure if there is some quirky thing you need to do--download..etc..
Help Please..

If more details are needed..just ask--and I'll try to be more specific.

go into the BIOS and make sure it is enables. I know my ASmedia controller was disabled when I got the board.

You really want to use the Intel ports for SATAIII drives anyway. I only use my ASmedia for the DVD drive. The performance is not even close to the Intel controller.

Yah, thats what leads me to think the Asmedia Controller is toast..

In BIOS.. under sata config.. there is no Sata ports visable. Its as if the board only has 2 red 6g intels, and 2 black 3g intels..

esata port also shows up, as does the mPCIe combo port..

Those 4 ports that should all be 6G, and controlled by the ASM1061 Asmedia are just not there at all..

Am I to assume the controller for those 4 sata ports has failed/arrived DOA on board and its unfixable?

You're looking in the wrong place.

Advanced Mode-> advanced -> Onboard Devices Configuration. Should be 2 or 3 down, under the 1394 controller, or USB3 controller depending on the board (assuming the lineup did not change much between P67 and Z77).

if it is enabled, and you still do not see it, then you're up for an RMA. Or return.

Whole lotta FAIL.. LOL

I think the Asmedia Controller is DOA..

Unless anyone has any other troubleshooting options for me to try..??

I think this board is going back for exchange to a P8Z77-V- Deluxe...or a Sabertooth Z77

Returned the overpriced piece of junk ROG board and got a Sabertooth z77, which is what I should have bought...

What an excellent motherboard. Easy to setup, build-quality is awesome, $200 range is bang on in my opinion. They give you something high-end, excellent quality, unique, and enough features for most users..

I'm really disappointed with ROG boards,... 3 bad experiences now and I keep giving that line chances.. For a $300+ board, it should be more reliable with much better documentation/support..

If you send it back, get a UP7. Best board out there.

But I don't see anymore troubleshooting that can be done.

+1
The UP7 is just legendary!
I hope I win it with some competition I joined :D
Chance is 1 out of 50 or something.

Anyway, I heard nice comments on the sabertooth.you bought. It will serve you well.
(Btw, I broke my oc record lol, on my cheap crappy board I did 5.31ghz, not stable and 5.25ghz stable enough to benchmark. Both were under 1.55v and stayed below 85 degrees).
