Maxmium processor speed for my board, help!

I have an asus M2N-MX SE Plus, again and again searching for the maximum processor speed all I am able to find is the chip slot, not the actual speed in mhz. Does this mean that my motherboard will accept all am2/athlon x2 processors?
I currently have an athlon 4200+ x2, and I am thinking of upgrading to an athlon 7750+ x2. They are the same chip type, so should I have any problems?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well of course you wont....there is no maximum mhz speed...there is a max FSB and Multiplier which you can calculate yourself.

500FSB x 9 multi = 4.5ghz
400FSB x 8 multi = 3.2ghz

They wont tell you this most the time...you can look for yourself in the bios though. To see what the max FSB of your board is. If your not overclocking then you wont have a issue as long as you follow CPU support and update your bios if needed.

This your board?

If so then

This motherboard supports up to 95W AMD CPU.

CPU support is here

and man do I hate ASUS site...they really make you work to find that support list.

Thanks for the help. I have the M2N-MX SE Plus, you were close, but I have the plus version, whatever difference that made. But I checked and mine to supports up to 95W, the athlon 7750 x2 is 95W. As for the FSB, I went to my bios, and all I found was, "Current FSB x11, maximum FSB x11".
So I am thinking I am good, but I need to double check with you guys, what do you think?
Thanks again.

Doesn't appear the board officially supports the 7750 yet. I don't see why it shouldn't support it but I wouldn't want to risk it till ASUS officially states it.

Btw if your running a 4200+ your multi is x11 and your FSB should be 200.

Running a program such as CPU-z will tell you this.

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

multiplier and bus speed = total speed for cpu-z

Ok man, thanks for the help.
I will contact asus when I can, see what they have to say. And I will try out that link you gave me.
If I have to get a 6000 then so be it, either way it is a big upgrade from the 4200. I am upgrading mainly because when I play high demanding games my cpu can overheat and I experience slow downs, and I have a thermaltake v1 heatsink and cpu fan on the tower, and no I never overclock. And if I am upgrading in the first place I want something that will last a few years.
Thanks for helping me understand, a few years ago it seemed they always told you that maximum cpu speed your motherboard could handle, now I see they make it harder to figure out.

So your CPU is overheating with a custom heatsink and at stock speeds????

That is not good at all...my X2 4400+ didn't over heat with stock cooling in a 85F room so something is wrong with the cooler...might not be seated right or the thermal paste needs replaced.

Your board would work with 7750 but would need update for the bios, without it it would say "Unrecognized CPU" like it did with my 780g and Phenom II 920 until I got new BIOS. In your place I would get 6000+

But the 7750 is not much more in price and is over 1000 mhz faster.
As for the cpu overheating, I read about it and it is a commom problem playing games like stalker and crysis. The cpu has a safety feature to keep it from cooking, it just slows down, so the game itself starts playing at like 5 fps. Turning my fans on high helps dramatically, but sometimes after playing for awhile it can still overheat. I think the problem is I have a 4200+ along with a 9800gt akimbo graphics card, so I can play games like crysis on high, but it is overworking the cpu, just a theory.
I appreciate all the help, I am going to contact asus, being sunday I doubt they are open, I will get back with you when I get some more answers.

Ok, I talked to tigerdirect and they told me the fsp speed was a little out of my range. But since then I did find my motherboard cpu support on the asus website.

*EDIT* For some reason the link does not take you there, you have to manually search for the m2n-me se plus to bring up the cpu support.

So it looks like it could handle up to a 6500+ x2. The thing I didn't know about my motherboard is it also looks like it would handle quad cores. For gaming interests I am not interested in the quad cores though, just an interesting fact.
So thats that, I am either getting a 6000+ or 6500+, I will do some searching.
