Maxter HD?

hi guys: i have a Compact presaio 6000 and i'm having problems with the windows XP i don't have a recovery CD and i don't want to spend money on a Windows XP solftware,so i have here another same Maxtor HD from a Emachines that also has a Good XPwindows and i swapped and it doesn't work and i started it with pressing repeatly F10 and went in Bios set up i tried to test it and it doesn't pass the test,
My question is there any settings that i should change,i'm using (Defaults)

These are settings sorry if i can't be more specific.

1. Are you sure that you hooked up everything correctly?

2. Is the Hard Drive corrupted in any way?

3. Is it set as master boot in BIOS?

You can't take a hard drive out of one computer and put it in a different computer and expect it to boot up as the motherboard hardware is all different. You will need to do a repair install with that drive or a fresh install but without the install cd, your out of luck. Check to make sure you don't have a recovery partition to where you can restore the operating system.

Thanks alot for you tips,well i have the system restore but it doesn't work anymore it starts and runs a litle bit and stays there forever, i still can do good in the internet,well i'm not spending not a red cent on this crap pc, thanks anyway

it's connected ok.
i don't think this is a corrupt HD,the only problem with this Emachines HD was the Power supply was bad.

How i go about setting as master boot?

Ok guys i was able to repair my Presario 6000, with the windows Xp Boot repair,after so much hair pulling, but never gave up ,things that i did, sorry can't explain better but i'm just trying to learn this difficult stuff, i downloaded for free the Win Boot CD and copied from the CD to 6 floppy diskettes,and then i put in #1 cd and powered up when i had the set up pressed F10 and all i had to do was to put in as upon request the diskette #2 -#6 and follow instructions, than i turned off PC and restarted and voila a clean start, i hope this can help people with Boot Problems,an yway i want to appreciate to all that tried to help me thanks.
