The drive is a serial ATA and im not sure if i am meant to install a driver to tell the motherboard it is and serial ATA and the motherboard does support serial ATA.

just make another partition.

Control Panel -->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Storage-->Disk Management and make a partition of that 30Gb of Unallocated space

Format the new partition u just make and u could use it ;)

they dont vary by 30GB when the total size is 160GB though

Uh.....duh. My 40GB is 39.2 formatted. If you take that as an average, then 156.8GB should be formatted size on your hdd

1. So what if your 40GB is 39.2GB?
2. Why use an "average" (however you might compute that) when you can just compute it directly (149GB)
