So my parts from newegg came in yesterday, and it is my first build and everything seems to be going great. I installed the motherboard, cpu, ram, and screwed in the PSU and the drives and hard drive. However, when I was working on it, I plugged a power cable to the 9800 pro i am using, and then I switched on the PSU, and I heard a really loud screeching noise coming from the psu.. I hit off the power right away, and then I heard a small pop come from inside the power supply..
and then, next thing I know, I see smoke coming from the vents of the power supply.. so I think that one is burnt out, no? =p I had an extra psu, and I plugged it in, and gave it power, and next thing I notice is that the psu fans are going, and I can feel the air coming out of it, but the heatsink fan for the CPU on the computer is not moving at all.. and It was moving before.. Not only that, but it seems as if none of the motherboard is really getting power at all.. Im not sure if the power supply really spiking like that could have also burnt out the motherboard, or maybe its a real silly error where something isnt plugged in.. Heres another thing, I have the tiny plugs going to the motherboard from the front of the case, and when I hit the power switch on the front of the case the psu does start up.. So it seems as if some of the motherboard is not getting power, but me hitting the button on the front of the case sends power to the PSU thus causing it to turn on? hmm its very weird.. I think I might have a dead motherboard
Any suggestions would be great
