I got this m/b with a Dual Core processor (AMD|A64 X2 4400+ 2.2G 939 89W) it says its only compatible with athlon64/ FX processor could it possibly work for dual core???

not true, if you go to the ASUS Support site and then CPU Support and then choose A8N-E it says its compatable if your BIOS version is 1010 or higher. I had this same question. I have not yet bought my dual core to confirm if this is true or not but according to the support site it will work.

On the front of the box it shows it works for Athlon 64, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64 FX

[EDIT] Heres a link to the thread i created that is the same as this one

You added Deliuxe in your sig to the end of the model number. That model seen there is not the deluxe model. That's a third model there.

:-P im not the one who created this thread i was kinda refering to MY motherboard :-P. The one I liked you to is MINE and it should work and mine is A8N-E. I didnt know he was talking about the deluxe version when i started posting on this thread.

off-topic - mine will work tho wont it?

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core processor
This motherboard supports AMD 939-pin Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core processor with 1MBx2 or 512KBx2 L2 cache which is based on 64-bit architecture. It features better multithreaded / multitasking performance than Athlon™ 64 FX / Athlon™ 64. was the overview on the model you are running. http://www.asus.com.tw/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=15&l3=0&model=455&modelmenu=1

The thread title is the same as your model board. Corbin's sig shows another model from that being the A8V-E Deluxe that won't support the X2s. The link you posted was for the model you are running clearly shows support when you look in the overview section where that is seen above. Why the "E" does support while the overview on the "E Deluxe" doesn't is a mystery here too.

You can disregard the A8V-E SE link posted earlier. That came up instead of the A8V-E Deluxe model described here.

This motherboard supports AMD 939-pin Athlon 64 FX/ Athlon 64 processors with 1MB/512KB L2 cache which is based on 64-bit architecture. It features 2000 MT/s HyperTransport Bus, dual-channel un-buffered DDR400 memory support and AMD Cool 'n' Quiet! Technology."

Well i guess that shows that you DONT always get what you pay for :-P

off topic-ok thank you im glad my new processor will work ^_^

Too often they don't specify what actual models a board will support when looking over the specs at a vendor or the manufacturer's product page on it. Sometimes that is due to a new model cpu coming after the board. But they seem to forget to update the information on that.
