MB is going to die

I'm afraid my MB with built in RAID is going to die. I'm using 2 HD with RAID Mirroring function. I heard that I need to unmount (disable the RAID mirroring) the hard drives first in order to run the HD independently. Is it true? If yes, how can I do it if my MB is failed?

If your motherboard dies and you put them in a motherboard that is non raid then they will work independently. If not same chipset as old one then you will need to do a repair install.

As far as I know a repair install won't always work, when switching an OS to another chipset.. In this case a full reinstall would be needed. Also if OP is using an OEM license where it is tied to the motherboard, reactivation on another motherboard would result in denial. (i think)

Even if you didn't have a redundant array of independent discs setup you would likely have to do a reinstall with your Windows Operating System anyway. From my experience I tried to switch a hard drive without a RAID setup to a new motherboard and had bugs and weird errors happen occasionally. After I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled my Windows I had no more issues.

in that case if you do need to re-install contact MS and tell them your mobo died, they might acivate you with the new mobo.
