Okay, so... I'm going to be getting a PS3 for 299.
Well, Walmart is having them [I work in the Photo Center @ Walmart] for 399... But you get a 100 gift card.

So, it's 299 basically.

And my brother has been wanting to play GTA IV for PS3 for a while... So, I'm going to get the PS3 then give him that... [I keep the gift card] in exchange for his computer he got at the end of q4 last year as part of the Retail edge package from Intel. since he hardly ever uses it. [he prefers his AMD 3200+ for some reason]

Basically, it's the Q6600 package Plus some stuff to get it going.

Comes with Windows Vista Premium
Intel Q6600 [with B3 stepping "I think", I'd have to check.. I assume it's B3 since it's made in 2007]

Intel DG33TL Mainboard
-link http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/DG33TL/index.htm

2x1GB G-skill 800 RAM.

Some SATA II HDD... I'm not sure what size or brand, doesn't really matter.

and a SATA CD Burner... Again, doesn't really matter what it is.
It's in an old Antec Sonata II case I had laying around w/ 450w PSU.

Then, my current computer.

AMD x2 4600+
2x1 GB G-skill 533mhz RAM.
Asus M2NPV-VM Mainboard
ATI 1950 Pro
CD Burner, Antec Sonata II [I love these cases, stfu]
Seagate 320GB HDD

So now, I'm trying to decide what to use to as a media server/center kind of thing.
Something to watch movies on, do some TV Capture, then edit the video... Edit pictures, Listen to music while I game on the other computer...
However, when I watch movies.. I want to be able to watch them on my 32" LCD TV.
Component/HDMI Inputs are okay.
However, I also want it to have an Optical Out for my home theater surround.

So, which computer should I use as the media center?

Things that I would need...
Would be a Sound card w/ Optical Out [The Intel rig already has optical out built in]
TV Antenna/cable in on a Video card or PCI Card... Or Component In, or something like that... Trying to get the best picture possible... Recording movies/programs from HD Channels then storing and eventually burning to CDs.
Also, Component Out or HDMI Out. [HDMI Preferred]
Also need a KVM Switch, capable of using One monitor [DVI] through two computers [both DVI] with USB Hookups for a USB mouse/keyboard [Logitech G15 and G7]
I would also like a Blueray CD Player. It can burn DVDs or not, it really doesn't matter as both computers already have a DVD burner. Except it would be kind of nice if it could burn DVDs, because DVDs do burn rather slowly =]

So that's what I'm looking for.
I actually really like planning this stuff out. I have a few different routes, but I'd like to see what you guys come up with first.
I'm not really big in to this right now so I'm not sure about CPU Usages.
So I don't know which computer I should really use to run this with.

However I still do play lots of games, so I still need a gaming capable rig.
Granted I don't play the most intensive of games, my current computer fits the bill just fine. But an upgrade never hurts. =]

So, help me out if you will ;]
If you need clarification just ask.

I'm just confused on what route to go here.
Since TV In can be done by a PCI x1 card, or PCI-E on a video card, or PCI-E on a non video card, and there's a frillion options.
Let me see what you guys think ;D

I'd like to spend 400-500 or less.
Preferrably about 300 NOT including the Blueray.
Then about 200 on a Blueray player.

Or would I be better off keeping the Ps3 and watching movies on that instead since it has upconvert?
Are computer DVD players for computers capable of Upconverting to 1080i/p?

I currently have no DVD player at the moment as I sold my 360, so.. I'd like to get this done within a few days.

So... what's your question? Your brother's system is much better... better RAM speed, Quad... ect...

If you're gonna put a computer on a TV, you'll need a GFX with plenty of VRAM.
