Media Error

My father dropped his laptop. Now when it turns on there is a soft buzzing sound and windows doesn't boot. Instead it displays something like: media error trying to boot.

Sounds like the hard drive is messed up to me, but I'm no expert so I thought I would check here.


If it is the hard drive, is the only option opening up the laptop and replacing the hard drive?

Yeah, most likely you have a bad hard drive or other hardware issue as laptops don't take too well to dropping. I would recommend taking it in and have it looked at to see what else is wrong with it.
