Memory Advice?

I have a laptop with Windows 7 64bit and 2G of RAM. It can go up to 8G of RAM. At idle it is using half the RAM. I was wondering if I upgraded to 4G of RAM should I see an increase in speed enough to justify the upgrade? I always thought that a 32 bit should have 3-4 G and a 64 bit should have 4-6. Anyways, a gig for your thoughts.

2 GB is a pretty crap amount even just for general productivity. You should see a huge overall performance increase by installing more memory.

Agreed, but if it has a max of 8gb then get 2 sticks of 4gb and be done with it. What processor do you have?

Ok then. I wouldn't get more than 4gb then. The celeron 900 is pretty crappy and wouldn't see hardly any improvement with with 8gb. My 2 cents though.

Thanks John. I'm not up to par on processors yet. Not sure how to know what you know to come to this conclusion. Maybe one day. Glad you asked about the processor. I will go with the 4G.
