I have a new dell dimension 8400. I ordered what I was told was compatible ram with my system. The ram is Corsair CMX512- 3200pc2 400mhz, 184 pin. I bought this because I read it is the best memory to buy for high performance gaming and I would like to use my new copy of Battlefield 2 to its full potential. Got it today and it wont fit in the slots! Do I need 240 pin? Someone else told me now that I need 533mhz? but the ram that came in my computer is 400mhz so I dont know... any assistance is much appriciated and I can answer any questions you have about my pc to the best of my ability. Thanks a lot guys.

if it has more pins than the ones in your mobo then it wont fit, if they are the same slots but different speed it will run at the lower speed. RETURN it or dont install it.

That is exactly my question, what amount of pins do i need?

May I suggest you pop off to Crucial.com and use their nifty little system scanner. It will soon sort you out - it only takes a couple of minutes and it will display exactly what memory you have and and what type to buy. There's no need to buy anything, or register, or whatever else. Very useful!

Have a great 4th!

used that databse thing at crucial.com and according to them i need 240 pin when i had ordered 184 pin. Thanks a lot for the tip much appriciated!
