Memory/Core Clock Speed vs Memory?

I'm comparing two video cards and one has 512 megs and another has 256 megs. They're both the same price except the one with 512 megs has half the Core/Memory speed than the 256 meg one. What's the difference betweent he two when it comes to games and graphics?
 
Generally you look at the core/mem speeds before VRAM. But you also have to consider the Core architecture as well.. What is the name of the two cards you are considering?
 
Haha see those cards aren't so different performance wise!

Altogether though the 7600gt is the more powerful card, I own one and am still happy with it. :)
