Memory not running at 400 MHz

266mhz is what it is auto-detecting the speed at. as far as i know there is no way to change that in the bios on dell computers.

If you have 2 sticks of memory installed, 1 is 266mhz and the other is 400 mhz then both will run at 266 mhz. Also its possible that the board doesn't actually fully support 1gb sticks so it might have to lower the specs of the memory to run. What motherboard or system do you have?

dell dimension 2400 mobo F5949 K5148 G1548 C242 with space for two sticks but only one in at 1 gb.

That system is capable of supporting 1gb memory. Download CPU-Z and then look at the memory tab to see what speed its really running at. Could be a mismarked stick of memory.

dont matter. if you mis match speeds in any computer the motherboard will detect the slower speed and down clock any other sticks to that speed.
