Memory only running at 453 MHz?

i recently purchased the ga-ma780g-ud3h motherboard, which supports 1066 and 1200 ddr2 memory, g. skill ddr2 1066 memory (2x2gb), and the amd athlon 64 x2 overcloked to 3.17 GHz. today, i ran cpuid and it said under "memory" that the memory max bandwidth was PC2-6400 and that the memory was only running at 453 MHz. what is the problem? is it the motherboard? how can i get my memory to run at 1066? do i need to overclock my cpu more? i am not very familiar with this aspect of computers so any help is greatly appreciated.

Not 100% sure but I think you're motherboards default setting is 453mhz. Like I have 1600 but my motherboard defaulted it to 1066. My guess is you have to manually set your speed.

DDR: Dual Data Rate, meaning that the memory transfers data twice each clock tick. So, the effective speed is twice the actual MHz. 453*2=906MTs, i.e. effective speed of 906MHz.

Athlon 64 (X2) CPUs only officially support memory speeds up to 400MHz (800MHz effective, hence the PC2-6400 as max bandwidth - PC2-6400 = DDR2-800), so you've got a decent OC there. To actually get the advertised 1066/1200 speeds you'd have to get one of the newer CPUs (Phenom/Athlon II/Phenom II) that have memory controllers which support higher speeds.

ok that's what i thought. i got my cpu to go to 3.28 and my memory is at 468 (936 effective). i thought that was how it worked and that the limitation was my cpu. thanks for the quick responses. 936 is still rather good (since i got the ram for really cheap and my motherboard only supports up to 1200) in my opinion.
