Memory problems...

Well, I have recently acquired a 1gb stick of RAM, bringing me to a total of 3gb, and my pc doesn't seem to be detecting the new one. However when I run PC Wizard it detects 3gig of RAM, but only shows 2 slots having RAM in them. I've checked and the RAM is the exact same type. Only the manufacturer is different.

Here's a screenshot from PC Wizard.

So yeah, any tips to get it working?

Nothing happens with just the stick itself.

Hey justing - it's cohen

ssooo nothing happens on 1 stick i would say that stick isn't work fully.

On my sister's computer 1GB didn't work and then i put a 512MB and found out the 1GB was using 768MB and not the full 1GB so i say it is a fault with the stick... you got ripped off. :D

Try running memtest. One thing that I read a while back but never confirmed is how you're dividing the RAM across the slots. Interestingly, the article I read said that if you have 4 slots but only want 3GBs of RAM (just an example), then you should get 2 - 1GB sticks and 2 - 512MB sticks to make 3GBs instead of getting 3 - 1GB sticks. It had something to do with currents and blah blah. As I stated, I never confirmed whether there is any truth to the effects of "spreading" RAM this way, but that's what I've done and it seems to work okay.

i go to school with justin and i spoke to his yesterday about it and we have determined that the RAM stick isn't working to it's full capacity. So the RAM isn't working.
