Hi all,

I am new to computer forums, looks like a great forum though so far!

I have an Acer 5100-5033 latop. Its got 1GB DDR2 memory and 256MB ATI Radeon Xpress 1100.

So i have 2 questions....

1) can i replace the video card to one that will have dedicated memory? ive read some people say that some motherboards allow you to, some people said no, its not possible. please shed some light :)

2) if i replace my 1GB memory (2X512MB) with one 2GB stick, will it make my computer run more smooth since the video card now eats a smaller fraction of the memory??

thank you!!!

My advice, for what it's worth, if you want to run decent games at decent speeds buy a desktop.

Otherwise yes - if you replace your current memory with a bigger stick it will run better but first i'd check and double check that your laptop/chipset can handle it and check which makes it will support.

As for the video card i wouldn't like to say without first consulting the documentation.

hope that helps.

upgrading to 2gb of ram will definitely help with the sluggishness, especially with vista.
upgrading your gpu is possible, but not recommended. a new gpu will be expensive and hard to find, and its not garenteed to work with your mother board. my DV9000 has a junky integrated gpu, but it is overridden by the independent geforce go 7600 (as far as i know). so, it is possible, at least on some laptops. a better option would be to but a new laptop.
