Memory Stick MAJOR Problem

So basically I have a 4gb memory stick with lots of important data on and I get home from work and put it into my pc only for my pc to say that it needs to be formatted!

Apparently it's wiped itself and I really need those files so if I do format it is there any free programs that will 100% get back all my files?
 
Wait untill you go back to work and plug it into the last pc you used, you might find its recognised and you can back it up

Usb flash drives aren't very reliable. I wouldn't be putting very important data on it unless it was copied to some other media in case of failure.
 
If the drive doesn't work in the last machine you put it in that did work then you will have to send the stick off to a professional data recovery service that specializes in usb flash drives.
