Memory upgrade question

Hi there,
I have an older P3 550 with 128 mb pc 100.
I decided to upgrade it with a 256 pc 133, for some reason it gives me a total of 256. When I take out the old stick of 128 and leave the new 256 one it shows that I have only 128 Mb installed
Any advices, I had problems with memory detection before but nothing like this. How do you explain that it detects only half of it?

You probably have a 128MB stick instead of a 256

I wish it was that easy.....
But I do have a 256 MB stick, thanks for your reply though

Does your board have any restrictions on max dimm size or single/double sided sticks?

Slots could handle up to 512 MB, so there is no problem there.
Al though after a closer inspection of the box the 256 MB stick came from I noticed a fine print at the bottom of the package saying that this memory stick is designed for motherboards made in 2002 or later. I guess this is my problem since the motherboard is an older one. Although I still dont understand why it detects 128MB instead of 256MB.
I'll try to swith this new stick with another 256MB stick in an other (more recent) computer and see if it actually detects the entire memory.
I'll post back here the results.

does one stick have the chips on both sides of the module and the other have chips on only one side?

Ah while we're at it ... whats the code on the memory chips?
