memory upgrade

hi can anyone help I HAVE A DELL GX240 OPTIPLEX SFF WITH 256mb memory i want to upgrade to 512 ,768 or 1024 , if i use my 256 i already have can i just increase to match my 256mb or can i add 512 to make 768mb , also i have checked crucial website , according to my spec i have sdram pc133 cl-=2, unbuffered ecc , do i have to upgrade with the exact or can i use non ecc (non parity ) as well , a bit confusing with all the memory sticks , as i do not want to buy the wrong stick

firstly yes you can add ram to your existing ram. for a while i added a 512 chip to my old dell added to the already 256 makeing it 768. you can also mix and match brands of ram and it will (should) work. just make sure its the same type of ram, which for you is apperently pc133.
