memory upgrade

I installed a stick of 512 and a stick of 256 ddr memory on my m830 board. This board takes either sd or ddr but not both. I had sd ram in it before I did this.At first it didn't like it because it wouldn't boot up. I think they might be differant speed,pc2100 and pc2700.Is this a problem.Also since I installed them my monitor goes into power saving mode.I have it set not to hibernate or turn off hard drives. Why would it do this or have I got another problem developing maybe with the video card? Als the mouse cursor loks up.Oh,this is the same m/bd I plan to upgrade from 750 mhz duron to an xp2500 athlon. Thanks.
 
I'm slightly confused with all your problems... I assume all these happened since the upgrade? Can you confirm none of these problems occur with the old RAM back in?

I suspect the RAM simply isn't compatable with the system. I've tried RAM in system that caused them to no longer boot. However, I stuck the same RAM in another computer and it worked just fine. Different brands of RAM can cause problems on computers.
 
I took the pc2700 -256 meg out to see if they were clashing.I will see it will not lockup.
