Memory Upgrades

Hi,

I've already upgraded my RAM Memory from 256MB to 512MB. I am interested in upgrading, once more, to 1GB+.

Last time I upgraded, I used the service which Crucial.com provided. Must I say, the service was brilliant!

This time, however, I am interested in purchasing my upgrade from an eBay shop or seller. I am full aware of the risks, that's not what I'm here for.

According to the Crucial.com system scanner, I have a Dell Dimension 1100 and is compatible with PC2700/3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs and supports the Dual Channel DDR. memory Type.

So, I hit search for this sort of memory on eBay and a few results appeared. However, some of the results have further information such as "DDR400", and Crucial sais nothing about my computer being compaitable with this.

What I would like to know is if, no matter what further information is listed, any memory under PC2700/3200 DDR SDRAM DIMM RAM will work on my system?

If not, can you provide me with some information which can help me find the right sort of memory myself? Such as information of the Dell Desktop 1100.

Don't forget, I'm relying on the Crucial.com system scanner that I have a Dell Desktop 1100.

DDR400 is PC3200, it's the way it's named. Any PC3200/PC2700 memory should work on your system is that's what Crucial say.
 
I purchased this memory and just heard a beeping noise :S. Any ideas why?

I have emailed the eBay shop I purchased the memory modules from.

The memory is compatible, but my guess is that your motherboard can't support 2GB of RAM.

If it only has 256MB stock, then you would be lucky if it can handle 1GB, I know my old computer came with 256MB and couldnt handle over 768MB.

Remove one of the memory sticks and try it again. If it still beeps, then it's most likely because you the memory you installed is either double sided, or high density, which your motherboard does not support.
 
When I ran the scan on Crucial.com, it said the capacity was 2GB.

Maybe they sent me the wrong memory sticks?

mine came with only 256mb of ram and my max supported is 2Gb:)

currently have 1.25Gb in there and my pc is over 3 years old :)

So it cant be that :confused:
 
It didn't boot up- I just got beeps.

Even when I put one of my original memory modules in along with one of my new 1GB modules it just beeped.
