Memory usage????

Hi there,

This is my first time at a forum so bare with me.

I have a question about my computer memory and what is happening to it:

My memory currently states that I have 896 mb, when I do a system properties check, but I know that I have 1 gig installed on my system which is: E Machine 3042 system with,
Celeron D 352 running at 3.2g, 1 gig DDR2 dimm ram (was 512 but have just installed another 512 mb), ATI Radeon Express 200 graphics card and 80 gig of HD.

I also had noticed before installing my extra 512mb my memory on system check stated that I had 433mb.
What has happended to my extra 216 mb, after installing another 512mb, that I should have and why has the missing memory increased so much when before I was only missing 89mb?
I hope this makes sense???????

does the graphics card have shared memory?

if so it means that your grsphics takes a percentage of your ram, mine does that too

Hi guys,

This forum stuff is great. Right then, in answer to quagmondo23: Yes my op system is only 32 bit.
funkysnair: Not completley sure but probably, my system does not have a great graphics card. However I am still concerned about; why when my ram was 512mb it showed an actual of 433mb losing 79 mb. But when I installed the extra 512mb it then said an actual of 896mb, where by I am now losing a whopping 216mb. Why am I losing more with the additional memory?
shady: how do I do that?
Cheers lads, this stuff is new to me but I am loving it. If you could shed any more light this would be greatly welcomed.

You computer does have a graphics card, its just integrated into the motherboard. That's called "onboard graphics" ;)

So you installed a total of 1024MB of ram right? since you only have 896MB left, that means that the other 128MB are being shared to the graphics card. You can change how much memory you want to share with the graphics processor in the BIOS. :)

To do that, with most computers, when you turn it on keep pressing "Delete" and the BIOS should pop-up (blue screen or gray in some cases) if it doesn't work with the key "Delete", try "F1". Then in there you should see a blank that has 128MB and says "Shared VRAM" or something related to "Video Memory" or "Shared something" change it to whatever you like.
