in my comp i have room for 4 gigs...right now i have factory hp 512 ddr pc 2100....so i got my 2 gigs in the mail today...some cheap brand....but its ddr pc 2100.....for some reason i cant get the computer to read it...it is only reading the 512.

The board has a 2gb limit with 512mb on each slot, so the only way to get to 2gbs is use 4 512mb sticks, each slot will only read up to 512mbs.
From the manual
128Mbit, 256Mbit, and 512Mbit non-ECC memory technologies DDR 266/333/400

sorry im kind of a noob...but i have 4 slots....which on tigerdirect it says it can take 4gbs....

Maximum Memory Supported: 4.0GB
Memory Slots (Total): 4

no but i will right now...i just tried again..but for some reason with just the 2 gigs in...it beeps and flashes a red light....now when i leave them in and add the 512 it starts right up...and runs but still only sees the 512....

Try the other 1gb stick by itself and if the same thing happens I would say the board has the 512mb on eack slot limit or for some reason the sticks are bad or just incompatible with the board.

i did i used both sticks...and got nothing...what should i do lol.....i am thinking about getting a whole new comp lol.....but i dont have money unless i am able to sell this one lol

Unless you know someone with a computer that uses DDR266 to try it out on. If not you can return it and exchange them for 3 more 512s and see if that works since you know 512mb sticks work.

HP's tend to be picky about what memory they use. Whenever I was asked to upgrade memory on an HP computer I always bought from Crucial.com. Since they have 100 percent compatible memory for that specific model. I have bought regular memory from a computer store and it wouldn't boot with it in. Finally just stuck with using Crucial.com for HP's.
