hey everyone. i was wondering what kind of memory i would need. it says on hp.com that i can upgrade to a "512MB DDR2-533MHz SDRAM" i have a hp pavilion a1200y and im pretty sure it takes a pc4200 memory module..am i right? also where would be a good plac to get that memory if it takes it?

I could add a few more online vendors with good reps like the following here.
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/MEMORY.hmx?
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ThirdCategoryList.jsp?SecondCategoryCode=0111
http://www.ewiz.com/category.php?categry=154
For price comparison once you have determined what memory you are after you go to sites like shopping.com, nextag.com, and others to see which online vendors offer the lowest prices on any particular item. For upgrading memory on HP systems please review the information at the HP support site for instructions there. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...cname=bph03886&product=1829053&dlc=en&lang=en

If you want to be completely sure, give it a test at:
www.crucial.com/systemscanner

Where to buy it... It's totally up to you. COMPUTER stores or online. You'll probably find them cheaper online.
Some suggestions would be:
www.newegg.com
www.tigerdirect.com
www.outpost.com
www.froogle.com

Lately I've been hearing complaints against TigerDirect and ZipZoomFly alike. Mwave keeps a good rep while newegg oftern has the better price. Usually when needing to find the lowest price for hardware especially memory and cpus simply type the product number on a good search engine to come up with a list of price comparisons links. Crucial is up there along with Kingston, Corsair(gamers choice-good value select too), and the premium OCZ. There's no surprise in seeing them with a good diagnostic tool. :)
