Memtest86 results

Hello all,

I was just trying to get some general opinions on the results of Memtest86 that everyone that has used it are experiencing. I just determined that a pair of G.Skill sticks I had installed were faulty as the test came back with over 10,000 errors. I just bought a new pair of Crucial Ballistix Sport XT ram, installed it, and ran Memtest again. I am making note that now there is a fraction of the amount of errors, but it is still irking me that there are any errors at all. However, there are only 39 errors at this point in the test, which is already nearly 2 hours in. Is it common to get a few errors such as this? Or should I be seeing absolutely zero errors?

You shouldn't see any errors at all. Try running memtest on one stick at a time to see if its just one stick that is bad.

I read on the Memtest forum that many people get errors during the Test 13 Hammer test. This seems to be the only area that the errors are occuring. When you are running your tests you get 0 errors when running the test including the Hammer test?

EDIT: On the memtest forum I believe some individuals were saying that RAM manufactured before a certain date consistently fail the Test 13 hammer test.

I've never heard of it. I've ran it many times and only get errors when memory is actually bad. I've ran it on old and new memory.

From what I understand, the hammer test has false positives. I prefer Memtest86+ myself.

Are you running it with the Test 13 Hammer Test? Memtest86 V6.0.0 Free

That's what i'm hoping. The G.Skill memory caused errors almost instantly into the scan on multiple different tests. Once that scan completed there was over 10,000 errors. After completing this test on the new Crucial memory I installed today I got a total of 168 errors, all in the Hammer test, so I think i'll take my chances.

From a quick search it looks like a lot manufacturers are dismissing this tests failure.

From what I could gather it sounded like the hammer test results are real errors, however, it is highly unlikely to ever encounter errors such as these in regular daily usage.
