Messed up big time - Deleted partition

Backed up a bunch of files, then accidently deleted the partition of the external hard-drive those backed up files were on AND the files on the main hard-drive. I had taxes, lots of important stuff, hundreds of hours of work. Is there anyway I can restore the partition? Need help ASAP.

http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ Ive used this before with great success. you might have to recreate the partition and do a format of the drive... but ive recovered files with this program after a format and an install of windows on top of it. the software isnt free though, if anyone knows about a free software that does a good job of recovering files let us know.

Assuming I go with that - should I proceed to install Windows then run that program?

you deleted the partition on both the external and the main drive? Ill try to answer your question with out you answering mine...

If you just need to recover files off the external hard drive, install that software and have it scan the external hard drive, you can actually download a demo and it will can it for free and then if you see what you need you can buy it.

if you toasted both drives do it 1 of 2 ways... if you have another computer put the drive in the other computer and install the software... or yeah you will have to reinstall the os and run the software.... i would only install the bare minimum to get your computer going... the longer you have the computer running and the more stuff you install to the drive the possibility of success lessens.
