Which type of board do you prefer? If i get a micro atx board, am i limited to the size of the video card that i use?

Why are ATX and BTX together?

I prefer ATX over MicroATX because they offer more expansion slots, generally more SATA/USB ports, and they are usually better at overclocking/performance (mainly due to most MicroATX's having integrated video).

Depends on what you need. BTX is basically useless right now, nobody uses the layout anymore. Microatx is great for small/portable builds and low-powered PCs. ATX motherboards are mainstream and packs more of a punch performance and expandability wise.

ATX...Definitely, but I have an ATX (Vista)desktop right now and I am moving soon. I would like my new office to be neater so I am gonna go with a Micro ATX..

I actually wish they would redesign the concept of all motherboards to allow better airflow, higher standoffs, and just a few small things like that. I saw an article in Maximum PC which had one of the editor's redesign ideas.

ATX allows for more expansion and more possibilities. MicroATX is very limiting with expansion.

i prefer Eatx as thats what server boards are, more folding power, dfi is coming out with a crossfire p45 micro atx board soon just to let you know

If you are using an old case that has enough size for an ATX motherboard it is better than Micro ATX. ATX has more expansion slots like others have already stated.

Well....

Micro ATX is ok. I'm using one right now that HP uses, but I want to use the regular ATX mobo's because I think all the SLi boards are ATX.

Micro ATX is the way to go - but - ATX is if you want more PCI slots.
I really don't mind, it's just that mATX is smaller and thus easier to handle.

And if you think about it, a mATX board will have its components closer,
which means traces will be shorter. Which means there is a very trivial
speed advantage.:P

when i bought my asus m2a-vm, i had no idea that the ATX w/e was going to have an impact. But it did, and i should've went with a ATX instead of a microATX. I can't have my sound card, capture card, and gfxplugged in at the same time to due to space requirements...#<!@

EDIT: Just noticed you said Dimension.

yeah the dimension desktops use nonstandard cases and motherboards - they are BTX and use a wierd ide-type ribbon cable and a PCB instead of standard headers for the front panel buttons
