Micro-budget build. Any suggestions?

New Member
Building this as a 3rd computer to put in my TV-Room. Will connect it to my 55" HDTV. Will be used to surf the net from the couch, and maybe as a media center later on.

Planning on installing Ubuntu on this.

Anyone see anywhere I can save a few more dollars or have any recommendations for other products? I think I'm getting close to the best bang for my buck here, but I'm not 100%.

I used the same Keyboard/Mouse and VGA cable, You will probably enjoy a Dual Core Processor better than a single core. I gave you the processoR I have because It is very low priced and easy to overclock.

Actually, the case that lhoney2 has includes a decent quality Topower PSU (total +12V@25A), quite sufficient for that system. I'd go for that even if you do go with ComputerGuru64x2s build, which doesn't include a PSU.

The dual-core CPU is definitely a better idea. I wasn't even paying attention to that.

Agreed. Anyways if you stick to your build an 400W Case PSU isnt gonna power it...

What is this comment based on? I think the PSU will power it. I don't think this computer will use more than 200W at full load. I know there is a good chance the PSU will fail at some point. If it does I'll buy a more robust one later.

What do you guys think about the Corsair Valueselect 667MHz vs the Wintec 800Mhz?

Not real crazy about open box HDD's...
 
You know you can always get a 120Gb OEM drive for the same price, but always get SATA if your board supports it.

My comment is based on the fact that usually most case PSU's stink.
