MicroATX cases

hey guys

well, i don't have my desktop anymore (in my sig). dad needed it for his office. so i got his old laptop instead since he has a new one. i'm planning on doing a microATX build, those small cases. thought they were pretty cool. hehe. i've got a few questions though.

are there any cons on getting a microATX case as suppose to a mid-tower or full tower?

i've always had a worry about cooling since it's cramped in there.

will all modern parts fit in there.

here's my planned build right now:

*intel e4600
*mobo? i know they make mobos for micoATX's. can any recommend a good one?
*inno3d geforce 8800gt 512mb i-chill accelero x1
*hdd? do they make special hdd's for microATX's? i'd like a 250gb one.
*a blu-ray optical drive
*2gb ddr2 800ram

as for the case, could anyone recommend a good one? preferably under 100 dollars. i'd like it to come with at least a 450w PSU already.

- In some situations the size of the graphics card can become an issue...
- Nope, the HDD are all the same really

i see. a 8800gt would definitely fit, right?

what are good microatx cases and mobos?

budget for case = 100 dollars
budget for mobo = 100 dollars

I have a microATX case because that's what my original parts came in, and it's the only size that will fit in the space I have available for a PC.

Finding a motherboard that would fit inside AND make the best use of all my older parts, as well as having a fairly modern processor all added up to being able to find ONE motherboard available.

MicroATX cases are a PITA when you have all your bays full, lots of power cables all over the place, and big hands. If at all possible, get a full-size case.

it's really cramped to install your stuff. that 8800gt will take up a lot of space in there. get one with a few fans since you have that videocard. and lastly, most PSU's that come with cases are crappy so just spend a little to get decent one

What kind of case are you planning to use? The normal matx ones or the REALLY small shoebox ones? If it's the latter, you'll have to worry about graphics card length and CPU cooler clearance.

not the shoe box ones. normal mATX ones

the reason why i want to do a microATX build is sometimes my friend likes to invite me over to play games. i hate carrying my old huge case around.

if anyone could suggest good cases that a 8800gt will fit, it'd be appreciated.

I just finished my DVB PC and used this case, SILVERSTONE SUGO SG02B-F Black.

It cools just fine, it was very hard to work with, cable management was quite a challenge. I have the E2160 OC'd to 3.0. It has been running for 24 hrs, stable and no temp problems.

This particular case will hold any 8800 Video card.

I have that case. It'll fit an 8800GT fine because the hard drive bay is above the video card area. There's nothing between the video card and the front 120mm fan slot, so you won't have to worry about cooling either.

But Blu-Ray drives are longer than DVD drives, you might have to be careful about clearance between your Blu-Ray drive and power supply.
