Microsoft ActiveSync Issues

Hi there,

I have a Fujitsu Siemens LOOX PDA/mobile & I am trying to sync my contacts/calender etc with Microsoft ActiveSync 4.2 but I'm having some problems....

When I place my PDA/mobile in the cradle there is notification that there is a connection and ActiveSync starts up but stays stuck with the pop up window saying 'Retrieving Settings'....even after leaving them connected for a long time does this pop up go away. To close the program I have to use Task Manger and when closing this way the program gives a message saying that it is waiting for a response from me.

I have tried removing & reinstalling ActiveSync but I keep getting the same problems. When I ran the troubleshooter it suggested that as I use Sygate Firewall I might have conflicts so I added ActiveSync to the list of running applications but to no avail.

Thanks for any help & if more info is required just let me know!!

Do you have the drivers for your PDA installed, go under device manager and look for any yellow exclimation points. If the drivers for it aren't installed active sync will sit there and wait for ever trying to communicate with it because in reality it doesn't know how without the drivers.

Hi,

I check but there doesn't seem to be any yellow exclamation marks. I tried updating the driver from the CD that came with the PDA/mobile but it said that I'm running with the latest version.

Could the issue be from some setting on the PDA/mobile?

possibly, maybe your pda thinks it's supposed to connect via wireless network, or modem and you're using USB. That'd be a good thing to check.

Well basically this is quite annoying so I decided to start everything from scratch by reinstalling ActiveSync on my PC & going back to the factory defaults to see if a screwed up some setting (and try to follow the instructions a bit better).

When I reinstalled ActiveSync I connected the PDA when I was prompted & the new hardware was installed successfully. But I was stuck with the 'Retrieving Settings' window; so I removed the PDA.

When I open ActiveSync on the PDA and I try to follow the help it tells me to go Menu>Connections but in ActiveSync this option is greyed out. I'm assuming that this is the problem could you please perhaps guide me through this?

I tried following the Microsoft help page too but again it asks for Menu>Options which is also greyed out!

Thanks...hopefully this is not too much of a mess!!
