Microsoft Computer games.

Hey guys,
Currently Writting a UNI assignement, and one of the questions is asking me why Microsoft arent as popular within the Game industry (software), as they are in the OS industry.
My initial idea was purely down to the fact Microsoft have far more competition in gaming then other companies.
I found from this site (http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=2856), that the most popular manufactor of the top 25 computer games was Maxis.

anybody got any ideas of why this my be? and Why microsoft are so un-popular with regards to sales of computer games?

I'd say it probably has alot to do with marketing of their games. Companies like Activision and UbiSoft go to great lengths to have long running commercials and web ads put into play. Ubisoft even had an hour long prequel movie on spike tv for the release of Assassin's Creed 2.

Probably also has a great deal to do with target audiences. Looking at that chart, the Wii plows ahead with 4 games in the top 4 sales. I'd give this up to the fact that their games are able to reach more audiences.

Its hard to sell as many games as a Mario game when your selling Mature games.

I can't think of any games that microsoft has developed on their own completely besides maybe flight simulator...
