Microsoft.net Frame work problems

My son
has bought railworks which requires Microsoft .net framework 2.0 sp1 to run.

Im running my pc on Windows XP with Microsoft .net framework 3.5 sp1 loaded.

When I ry to load Microsoft .net framework 2.0 sp1 it come up with the message "SET UP ERROR" and wont load.

How do I load Microsoft .net framework 2.0 sp1 on my pc?

Can anyone please help?

MS Frameworks are backwards compatible (I think), it should run fine with 3.5 running.

Not necessarily. Some programs require certain versions and won't run without it.

This is also true...

You see...this is EXACTLY why I program all my programs in the .NET framework 1.0.On that way all my programs work NO MATTER what version of the .NET framework the user has installed on his/her computer.

Anyway Andyr...go into the ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS or however it is called in your Windows OS if its newer then Windows XP.BE SURE TO TURN ON THE OPTION CALLED "Show updates"!!!From there uninstall ALL the .NET frameworks and ALL their service packs that you can find.After that restart your computer.I repeat...RESTART YOUR COMPUTER!!!After your computer has restarted,go into the following location on your disk C: if your Windows OS is installed on the disk C: of course:

C:\WINDOWS\

There find the folder called "Microsoft.NET".Delete that folder and restart your computer!!!After you have restarted your computer,download the Microsoft .NET framework version 2.0 from the link below:

Install it and after the installation is completely finished,restart your computer!!!After your computer has restarted,download the Microsoft .NET framework version 2.0 service pack 1 from the link below:
