Microsoft Office repeatedly wanting money.

I just tried to open my spreadsheet on my latest computer with Windows 10 and once again Microsoft office wants me to purchase it again, possibly with yearly membership. There are like no upgrades to excel, word, or any of these softwares in like over a decade or more. Is there anyway to activate these two softwares without paying again? Maybe copy the previous version from old computer onto new computer so I can just edit my simple little documents?

Microsoft offers a free tier of basic office programs. Word Online and Excel Online should be sufficient for general basic edit/creation of documents and spreadsheets.

I need to use a website to edit a spreadsheet? Can't just activate at least partially the app on computer?

I believe you can download the Micorosft 365 app from the Microsoft App store.

It probably still needs an internet connection to function.

That 'app' is basically the Microsoft Portal, but within an app and it will need to use the internet. It seems it's really for those who don't want to open a browser... and it looks like it's more of a fancy OneDrive portal that feels like GoogleDrive. Link to the app is https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/microsoft-365-office/9WZDNCRD29V9

I would second the use of OpenOffice, especially if you don't need to be tied to any Microsoft service for work or any other thing.

Ok. Thanks. I like to keep my computer offline. Got decade and more from my last computer which is still going by avoiding most internet connections.
