Microsoft Office Trouble

I just re-installed Windows XP on a very old computer. It has Microsoft Office XP Professional 2001. On Access, I tried to save a workbook as a new (or newest it can handle) Excel file. When "save as file type" is dropped, it says "Registry Error" as a file type. Could anyone tell my why it does that and how to fix it? Also, Windows installer comes up everytime I open Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. Can that be fixed?

Yes. Re-install. This and the registry problems together is an almost 100% certain indication of a botched installation, uninstall and install again.

You have to reinstall the application. The installation of every Windows application updates the registry so that the application will run. Without doing so, it won't run. Don't delete your data files. Simply put the Office discs in and re-install. It will work fine after that.
