I recently bought a new computer and it came with a Trial version of Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003. I entered the Trial key and the program worked fine but it expires today. I was looking for a new version online but it costs $399 ($239 Upgrade, whats the difference) which is pretty expensive. My other computer came with Microsoft Office for free. Why didn't this one come with it and would my best option be to buy the whole new package?

Different manufacturers have different deals on software.
Get OpenOffice 1.0.4 (or latest version) and use that. It does everything M$ Office does pretty much, and it's 100% free. It can open all your existing M$ Office files as well, so no worries of losing anything. Save your cash.
I also have Microsoft Works which works perfectly. Is that better or worse than OpenOffice.
I downloaded OpenOffice onto a different computer (one I am using right now) and I cannot open my Microsoft Works (Word Proccesser) files. A list that called "Filter Selection" comes up and I can't find the right program to choose. Which one on the list is it? Remember this is MICROSOFT WORKS: WORD PROCESSESOR, not Microsoft Office.

It might not be compatible with M$ Works. I've never used "Works" before. All i know is OpenOffice is a free substitue for M$ Office.
Look for a few Works substitute f u can. I'd say OpenWorks lol..but that doesn't exist.
