I've tried to access the Microsoft Security Center that tells me about firewalls and virus scans but I can't seem to find it. Usually the shield icon is in the control panel but it's not showing up. How can I access it? HELP

Should be in the Control Panel somewhere, don't remember though, when I wiped my hard drive recently, I didn't install Service Pack 2, caused more problems than it fixed for me... :)

What service pack do you have installed?

start >> run >> cmd

when prompted: c:\ ... type ... sc start wscsvc ENTER

it will start then, if it doesnt than you dont have SP2 installed

NOTE: i would leave it off, it is an annoyance as it interferes with other security programs.) If you wanna know how to turn it off (not just have it disappear), just send me a message ...

Syphr- I tried the run command and it didn't work...I don't have service pack 2 installed because when I did on another comptuer it caused more problems for me but thanks for your feedback!

oh ok. I take it you were not aware that security center was part of SP2 before when tried to run it?

i have service pack ! on my laptop and when i tried updating it to download the sservice pack 2 my computer just crash and gave me that blue screen. is there any reason why my computer wont take service pack 2 ? i went to the Pc repair close by and the guy said my computer wont take SP2 so he just put em back to SP1 but i want that SP2 installed for more security. any help will appreciate.. (not tryin to jack ur thread)

no I didn't realize that SP 2 was the only way to access the security center.
Just as G-bonic mentioned, when I installed SP 2 on my computer a while ago it really messed it up so I havn't downloaded it yet

I'm not sure why he would tell you that, being a service realease i cannot see any reason why your windows cant take it. Aside from a bad download. Have you tried ordering a free SP2 disk through microsofts website, and installing it that way instead.

I dont know why, but for some reason that scenario.. aside from the guy telling you that SP2 wont work on yours... seems oddly farmiliar.

is it possible you used the network installation...

i'd say just order a disk... and if i doesnt work from there call MS Support
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

i might think about downloading updates for SP2 i dont want my laptop crash again and but its annoying its always asking me to update update recommend and when i click it and see service pack 2 i just back up.. :D
