Microsoft thinks i'm using pirated software!

hello friends, how're you :)
I have a weird problem here. One of my laptops has Avira (the paid version, not the free) which is about to expire in a few days. Thought i'd use MSE after this expires. But while downloading MSE, Microsoft wants to test if the OS is properly licensed. It launches some genuine-check program, and then tells me my Windows is not genuine.
How come? I download windows updates automatically, and it has never complained about pirated software.
This Windows 7 came pre-installed with the laptop (HP).
How come it's not genuine? I don't think HP sells computers with pirated operating systems, do they?
Got a COA label inside the battery bay of the laptop, and i have a serial number there (which i haven't ever used, because windows was pre-activated at the time of purchase and i didn't reformat the HDD yet, it's been 2 years!).
So what are my options now? Call up HP support? Or maybe call up Microsoft support? Is there something i can do to fix it myself?
It's 2 years old, and the standard warranty is over. If I call up Microsoft or HP, will they charge me money in return of any assistance they provide? Thanks.
