Microsoft Virtual PC

Hey guys,

I am currently running Vista Home Premium 32-bit and have a question regarding Microsoft Virtual PC. I want to use Vir. PC to run Windows XP Pro because some apps tend to do better in XP than in Vista. My system currently has 2GB RAM and I want to allocate 1GB t be used by XP.

Here's my concern: I'm only going to use XP once in a while, so Vista will still me my primary OS. So, when I close the browser that XP is displayed in, does Virtual PC give back that 1GB RAM that I allocated to XP? Or does it keep that 1GB regardless of whether Vir. PC is still open with XP or not?

Thanks,
Krynzen

I haven't used Virtual PC, but I have used VMWare quite a lot, and it releases the memory when you close it. I can't imagine any virtual machine program would keep it allocated.

Doesn't explicitly answer your question, but my educated guess is Yes it would release it back to the system.

I have been using a similar setup untill my recent format, as soon as you close or shutdown any given vm the phisical memory is releasted back to the host machine.
