mid tower?

I am getting an 8800gts, but I really didn;t want to have to shove out the money for a full tower case. I can if I really need to, but I would rather go a little cheaper and get a mid tower. Do you think it would fit? Or I should say, what would be the minimum length/depth of the case I would need for such a card?

I've just heard a lot of complaints of the card being huge and it not fitting in a mid tower case. I just wanted to make sure before I make any big decisions and then regretting it ya know? Thanks for the input though :)

I was also looking into a Zalman CNPS9500 CPU cooler. Will THAT fit well? I've just heard that it can be really tight and possibly restrict airflow, is all.

that's what I was wondering. I only have air cooling my rig, so i figured I should go for a big guy. And it would give me more options for cooling in the future, if I decide to go water. Thanks for the input ya'll!

For things like the 8800 though you want a big case because of the amount of heat is extraordinary.

Big case doesn't necessarily equal better temp control. Air flow is the key, not size. Otherwise our PC's would run cooler with the cover off, right?

Well the idea of size is that in a restricted case there will be less room for the air to flow, this is especially so at the 8800's are big cards. Look at my X1950 Pro; it's very long and as such the air has to flow around it but it gets heated up as it passes the card. This makes it very warm and as such I have 4 fans drawing the air around the CPU out. I reckon motherboard temperatures could get to 50C in gaming with my rig in a smaller case because there's less room for the air to flow. You can though if you don't mind noise get a couple of the Delta HF fans; they push stupid amounts of air with a lot of noise.

I actually just broke down and got a full tower. Judging by what most of you said, I went with that. It'll make me feel more comfortable with temps and everything. Thanks for the input!
