MIDI connection

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100/P105 laptop and recently downloaded a virtual organ program. I am suppopsed to be able to connect to another organ or keyboard which is MIDI equipped. Now I find no MIDI port on my laptop. Is there another way to make this connection? USB maybe?

There are many USB MIDI devices out these days. Rarely do you find equipment now that only supports MIDI ports. Even if you do, you can simply get a USB MIDI interface.

M-Audio and other manufacturers make wonderful, basic USB MIDI controllers. Would you be interested in a drawbar controller, such as Hammond's XMC-2?

By the way, what organ program did you purchase?

I came across a mention of a free virtual organ while watching organ videos on Youtube. It is a version of a Wurlitzer 216. I didn't know what a "virtual" organ was so I downloaded it. The notes sound good using the laptop keyboard but need the cable to play it the right way. Later I found a Hammond B3 virtual organ for $50 but want to see how this one works first. Thanks for the help

No problem. What is the free virtual instrument you found? I am always on interested in new sounds.

Do you have a MIDI capable keyboard?

The free virtual organ I found is Miditizer. It can be found at virtualorgan.com. Click on "downloads" under the Main Menu on the left. I have both a Hammond organ and a Casio Tone Bank keyboard that are MIDI capable. I too am interested in new sounds but not too good with any of them. My mediocre playing abilities can be seen on Youtube, enter "aquila4031". These vidios were taken with a Sony Cybershot camera so sound quality is only fair to poor.:o

You could buy an usb keyboard too...
One of the best free virtual synths is Minimogue. Easy to find with Google.

Ah, great! Thank you for the info.

In that case, you would need a USB to MIDI adapter like the one ukulele_ninja posted earlier. Also, since you are creating videos for the web, you might benefit from an audio/MIDI interface like the Tascam unit mentioned. That would allow you to connect both the midi from your keyboards and their audio out directly so you could record your performance in a higher quality. As it is, the Cybershot did a decent job.

Thank you for sharing. After DCIScouts and I were checking out your videos, we were wondering if you take requests. Would you be up for a rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"? :)

Thank you for the tip on Minimogue as well, maceman!
