Mini VGA Connection to Monitor

I got the Asus Ultrabook and it dosnt have a VGA port but a mini VGA port instead. If I want to buy an external monitor for my laptop do I need to get a special monitor or will a normal monitor work with an adapter or something? Thanks!!
