A little while ago I was having a problem that everytime I opened certain files, windows explorer would crash. The remedy I found was to disable some .dll's. I did that and the problem was solved, but now windows explorer won't display thumbnails or display any mp3 info like artist and album title. How do i bring this stuff back. Also i can't remember the .dll i disabled.

didn't work

I ran the /scannow and it asked me for my xp cd, i put it in and it finished. am i supposed to do something else after that because it didnt do anything.

No

any other ideas besides re-installing windows. I disabled a .dll, does anyone know the .dll that is in charge of displaying that info. once i know that, i can re-enable it, problem solved.

boot to the recovery console off an XP cd. Once there select your installation, which is most likely C:\windows, type in your admin password, then use the following code

Code:
chkdsk /r /f

Let it do its thing

Just curious what .dll did you disable?

There is no chkdsk /f function in the recovery counsel. only /r and /p. and I did /r and it didn't work. And to answer your question, if I knew what the .dll was that i disabled, i wouldn't be in this perdicament. All i know is that its the one responsible for show mp3 info and thumbnails of pics in windows explorer.
