Missing DVD-drive

I have TOSHIBA CD DVDW SDR5472C and recently, during a computer crash, the icon in My Computer disappeared and the drive is not recognized. I tried "ADD NEW HARDWARE" but i did not helped. I do not have the CD of the drive since it was installed in the computer service store.

I tried searching for drivers but nothing was found.

Optical drives don't require drivers or anything, so you won't find anything. My first test would be sure it's still vi sable in the BIOS, and that it's possible to boot from it. If this doesn't work, then you know it's hardware related.

You should be able to tell if windows sees it at all through your local disk management. (start>control panel> Administrative tools> Computer management> Storage> Local disk management)
