Missing Emails - Outlook 2007

The last 2 mornings when I've switched on the PC and opened Outlook not all the new messages are appearing in the Inbox.
For example, the inbox shows that there are 12 new unread messages but all the messages that I can see in the inbox have been opened/read.
I have tried sending test messages from another email address and these have been downloaded and displayed immediately while Outlook is open.
How can I find and display these missing messages and stop this problem happening all the time? I would be really grateful for help with this as I don't want to miss any important messages.

According to me there is some issue with the settings of outlook , or its get corrupted.
So to resolve this issue follow these steps .
1 Take a back up of .Pst file of outlook .
2 Uninstall and reinstall the outlook .
3 Restore .pst file in the outlook .

This will solve your issue .

Hi Nikole
Thanks for the reply.
Could you be more specific with your instructions please?
Where do I find this file and how do I back it up?
Also not sure how to uninstall/reinstall just Outlook as it came as part of the Office Enterprise 2007 package.
Thanks.

But I still don't know how to uninstall/reinstall Outlook separately as it's part of Office Enterprise, and if I go into add/remove programs it just displays as Office Enterprise.
