missing hard, please help

iI need to buy i new hard drive for my computer, Ive been told i need a IDE, how do i no which to buy when i have not got the old one to compaire it with.

If you are putting this into an existing computer, you can look up the model online and check out the specs it came with. Or look for IDE cables:

Its a old computer I brought some years ago, it was self built job so i dont think i could use the net to look the spec up, my x wife so kindly had the hard drive taken out before she gave it back to me. what do IDE cables look like? and what size would i need?, I think the cpu is about 2.2 if that make any sence.
