Missing Icon?

On one or more occasions I have "lost" a desktop icon. In its place is the generic Windows icon. Any ideas why and how to recover. Using properties on the generic icon, I attempted to recover it but no luck. Thank you
 
Rebuild you icon cache:

Win9x/NT4/2k
C:\Windows\ShellIconCache

WinXP
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Iconcache.db

Vista
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Iconcache.db

Just start Task Manager then close down Explorer.exe
Then File Run the above (not the bold part though)
Then delete the bold part as shown above
Then restart
